Collin Sexton – Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a very interesting offseason to say the least. Not only have they been looking to move Kevin Love and the $60.2M remaining on his contract, but Collin Sexton was a name that came up multiple times in trade rumors. There were talks of Sexton possibly being on the move around the NBA Draft, but nothing ever developed into real trade talks.
Entering his fourth season in the league and the final year of his rookie contract, Collin Sexton is eligible for a contract extension, but the Cavaliers have been unwilling to negotiate long-term deals right now given their financial hardships. Cleveland has not made the playoffs since 2018 when they were in the NBA Finals with LeBron James and they are not close to being that kind of team yet.
They did extend Jarrett Allen long-term and the Cavs brought in Lauri Markkanen as well this offseason, but with Kevin Love still on their roster, Cleveland does not have the ability to extend Sexton long-term without going over the luxury tax threshold, which is something they do not want to do.
Darius Garland, Collin Sexton, Isaac Okoro, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen are all very talented young players with a lot of potential to be something special, but it is hard to imagine that the Cavaliers will be able to keep all five of these guys long-term, especially now that they brought in Markkanen on a new four-year deal.

The Cavaliers may very well have to choose between keeping Garland or Sexton long-term, which is why Collin Sexton is a potential trade target for many teams around midseason. The young combo-guard has averaged 20.2 points, 3.4 assists and has shot 38.5% from three-point range through his first three seasons in the NBA, making him a great addition in the Heat’s backcourt.
Miami could make this trade work by giving up Tyler Herro, KZ Okpala, and some draft picks, but who knows if this is even enough value for the Cavaliers if they are trading their best player.

Any trade the Heat could make would likely require a third or fourth team getting involved, but given his possible availability and the Heat’s interest in him earlier this offseason, Collin Sexton is definitely a potential trade candidate for Miami should they look to move Tyler Herro.
