Does this trade make sense for Dallas Mavericks?
While Josh Green and Tyrell Terry could be two key young players for the Dallas Mavericks to develop for the future, this is an organization that wants to win now with Doncic being a multi-time All-Star at just 22-years-old.
Getting Jerami Grant could absolutely push the Mavericks past the first-round of the playoffs, somewhere they have not been since they won the 2011 NBA Finals.
Given how strong teams like the Lakers, Suns, Warriors and Clippers are at full strength, it is hard to imagine that the Mavericks would have a chance to actually come out of the Western Conference and make the NBA Finals with the addition of Jerami Grant, but moving forward, pairing Grant with Doncic is a really solid move, especially if the Mavs are going to look to trade Kristaps Porzingis at some point.
Porzingis is owed $101.5M over the next three seasons, so it may be hard for the Mavs to trade him, but if they can do so and add another All-Star talent, having Jerami Grant as their third key option suddenly makes Dallas a real contender.
Again, this move is not going to make the Mavericks a championship contender this year, but acquiring Grant gives the Mavs another high-level talent to pair with Doncic long-term.

At the price of two young talents and a 2022 first-round pick, this may not be the best move for Dallas to make right now, but given their cap situation, they may not be able to find a better high-level talent than Jerami Grant to trade for both now and next offseason.
