How This Trade Impacts Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers asking price for Ben Simmons has been sky high, and rightfully so. They don’t want to sell low on a player with that kind of potential. But, to get a deal done, they will have to lower their asking price a little bit.
This would be a trade that not only the Brooklyn Nets are winners, but the 76ers are as well. Outside of Damian Lillard-centric mock proposals, Philadelphia is normally left without a player capable of stepping into the starting point guard role. That would not be the case in this hypothetical trade.
Irving has his quirks and rubs some people the wrong way with some of the things he does off the court. But, while on the court, he performs well. He is exactly what the 76ers are looking for to help take them to the next level.
Irving would provide that perimeter scoring punch the team has been looking for since Joel Embiid began coming into his own. Irving would excel as the 1B to Embiid’s 1A, making for one of the best duos in the NBA.

His offensive creation will do wonders for a 76ers’ offense that was sometimes stagnant when the pace slowed in the postseason. Ask the Golden State Warriors what Irving is capable of under the bright lights of the playoffs.
While Irving isn’t close to Simmons defensively, the upgrade he is offensively is nearly as big of a gap. Philadelphia would still have players such as Danny Green and Matisse Thybulle to deploy as defensive aces on the perimeter.

Philadelphia is unlikely to get a player of Irving’s caliber in a deal for Simmons. If this was an offer on the table, they would be hard-pressed to turn it down.
