Minnesota has been rumored to be heavily involved in Ben Simmons trade talks right now, so giving up some of their better assets in a trade now for Jerami Grant may not be the best thing for them to do. However, Grant is a perfect player for them to target in a trade for several reasons.

Not only is he coming off a terrific breakout season, but Jerami Grant is an excellent complementary player next to Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt because he is a two-way threat.

When you look at Minnesota’s roster right now, their starting unit is clearly talented when healthy, but they really need to address their forward positions. Jaden McDaniels is a solid future asset that will get better, but Jerami Grant is a finished product who can contribute right away at the power-forward position or on the wing.

Minnesota has no other reliable players in their frontcourt besides Karl-Anthony Towns, as both Jaden McDaniels and Jarred Vanderbilt are still young, growing talents, which is why they need a guy like Jerami Grant to not only lean on for production offensively but to hold things down at the power-forward position on defense as well.

As for Detroit, both Jaden McDaniels and Malik Beasley are two substantial pieces to add to their young core. Not to mention, they would be getting Minnesota’s first-round pick in 2022, that is, if the Timberwolves did not receive a Top-8 pick in the draft.

Adding more talent for the future and building off of their young core intact needs to be a goal of the Detroit Pistons this year, hence why they could be interested in moving Jerami Grant in this trade.

Malik Beasley has proven to be a key scoring option in Minnesota over the last year and a half, and McDaniels put on a show in Summer League this year, averaging 16.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and shooting 49% from the floor. The Pistons can play these two guys right away and continue developing them next to their current young players already on their roster around Cade Cunningham.

Minnesota seems to believe that they are one piece away from being a playoff threat in the Western Conference, and if they can get their hands on a guy like Jerami Grant, then they could be well on their way to earning a spot in this year’s play-in tournament.
