Does this trade make sense for Sacramento Kings?

Moving Buddy Hield not only frees the Kings from his contract, but they could also add a talented young forward in Kyle Kuzma to their roster. Given his athleticism and his scoring abilities, Kuzma could actually help the Sacramento Kings to improve over the years. Still, the one aspect of this trade that may ultimately be the deal-breaker for the Kings is getting Davis Bertans.

He would replace Buddy Hield’s three-point shooting production, but his contract is not favorable whatsoever. As mentioned before, Bertans is owed $65M over the next four seasons, which is a lot more than the three years and $61.5M remaining on Hield’s contract.

That extra year of having $16M on their payroll could really hurt the Kings, but maybe they could move Bertans again in a trade before then.

In total, the Kings would be taking back $104M in salaries in this trade over the duration of each player’s contract while only sending out $66.7M in salaries, which is why this trade may not make much sense for Sacramento from a financial side of things. Still, talent-wise, this trade does make sense.

They have been eye-balling Kyle Kuzma for quite some time now, and since they wanted to trade Hield for him a few months back when Kuzma was on the Lakers, the Kings should still be interested in trading Hield for him now with the Wizards.
