Why Detroit Pistons Should Pursue Tyler Herro
The Detroit Pistons would be a perfect landing spot for Tyler Herro should the Miami Heat look to trade him. The Pistons are in the earlier stages of their rebuild, and the former Kentucky product would fit right in.
Detroit were big winners this offseason, as they landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery and selected Oklahoma State point guard Cade Cunningham. He has the skill set and size to play alongside anyone, as he won’t be shoehorned into just being a point guard.
Right now, Jerami Grant is the only true scoring threat that the Pistons have. But he will likely play a majority of his time on the ball. So, to make his transition to the NBA easier, Detroit would be smart to add some more shooting and scoring alongside him.
Josh Jackson, who averaged 13.4 points per game, is the second-leading scorer returning to the team. A second-year jump can be expected from Saddiq Bey, who averaged 12.2 points per game as a rookie.

Herro would help in that department as someone who has averaged 14.3 points per game in his first two seasons. His 3-point shooting is something Detroit could desperately use more of.
Herro is a 37.5 percent shooter in his career. Last season, Detroit finished 22nd in 3-point makes and percentage and 21st in attempts.

Turning 22-years old in January, Herro fits the timeline in Detroit. The Miami Heat could try using him as the centerpiece of a deal for Grant or add some more size to their wing position with Jackson. If they are high on Hayes, they could try nabbing him and grooming him into Kyle Lowry’s eventual replacement.
Detroit could take a few avenues to swing a deal, as Herro would be a great fit for their young team and bring a lot that they are currently lacking.
