DeMarcus Cousins gets a shot midseason with Minnesota Timberwolves

DeMarcus Cousins’ fall from grace has been very saddening, especially since he was one of the best centers in the league not too long ago. From a ruptured Achilles to a torn quad to a torn ACL all in his left leg, it seems like Cousins is on his way out in the NBA, but some teams could show interest in him at some point during the 2021-22 season. 

To think he can still contribute meaningful minutes for a true contender is wishful thinking at this point, but he could definitely prove to be an asset on the bench and in the locker room for a team looking to improve.

It is possible that a contending team could give him a shot, especially if someone’s big man goes down with an injury, but I think a team like the Minnesota Timberwolves makes the most sense for DeMarcus Cousins.

Minnesota is looking to improve this year, and DeMarcus Cousins Is just looking for any opportunity to be one of the 15 guys on an NBA roster, so why not join a young team and be an All-Star’s backup/mentor? Karl-Anthony Towns is a great player, but the Timberwolves really don’t have any depth behind him.

Jaden McDaniels is more of a power-forward. Naz Reid is still a young big man looking to develop, so the T-Wolves could actually benefit from adding an experienced, former All-Star like DeMarcus Cousins in their frontcourt.

Not only could he play sporadic minutes off the bench, but he could really help Towns and Reid both in their continued development seeing as they are both still young centers. 

If the Timberwolves are not the team for Cousins, his options are limited, but maybe teams like the Hawks, Bucks, or Blazers could show interest. Overall though, it seems more likely that DeMarcus Cousins will get his last shot to prove himself with a team when someone’s center goes down with a key injury.
