Does this trade make sense for Portland Trail Blazers?
The Trail Blazers and their fanbase adore CJ McCollum and they know what they are getting from him, so moving him for Kristaps Porzingis may not be the best move to keep Damian Lillard happy, especially since Porzingis would come with a lot of question marks.
While he did average 20.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks during the regular season last year while shooting 37.6% from three-point range, he usually did not show up in the Mavericks’ biggest games, including in the postseason.
Porzingis also missed 40% of the Mavericks’ games last season due to injuries and Porzingis’ knees are a slight concern.
To top everything off, Porzingis is owed over $31M per year over the next three seasons and he will almost definitely opt in to the final year of his contract worth $36M, so the Trail Blazers would be tied down to him long-term.

Moving McCollum for Porzingis really would be a bad move that honestly, would probably result in Damian Lillard requesting a trade midseason.
