Does this trade make sense for Golden State Warriors?

While adding Ben Simmons looks fantastic on paper for the Warriors, as they would have four All-Stars and two of the best defenders in the entire league, I am not too sure they would be smart to do so.

Simmons is a really talented player, but so are Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, and Jordan Poole, all of which are expected to hold big roles with the Warriors this upcoming season.

They have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, but the main reason why the Warriors have struggled is because of injuries. They just have not been able to stay healthy and most importantly Klay Thompson has been out since the 2019 NBA Finals.

Now, with Klay on the mend and expected to make his season debut on Christmas Day for the Warriors, this team is going to be at full strength for the first time in ages.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and James Wiseman make up a really strong starting unit, and then the Warriors have plenty of depth with Andre Iguodala, Jordan Poole, Damion Lee, Kevon Looney, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Otto Porter Jr., and others.

Getting Ben Simmons and Seth Curry certainly adds value, but Golden State would have to sacrifice a ton of future assets to make this a reality.

If Golden State did make this trade with no other teams involved, they would have an awkward looking rotation with Steph Curry, Seth Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Ben Simmons out on the court together, but overall when you break down this trade from a players standpoint, Curry and Simmons give the Warriors more immediate contributions and value than the likes of Wiggins, Poole, and Wiseman do.

This is a really complicated scenario for Golden State to figure out but given the time they have spent to develop a young core for the future next to their current core, it is hard to imagine that they would give up everything now just to tear what they have built down.

Golden State may have interest in Ben Simmons, but the best scenario for them would likely be to stand back and let this whole situation unfold without them getting involved.

The Warriors are going to be title contenders again with or without Simmons on their roster and they have a chance to be for a long-time to come with the young talents they have on their roster currently.
