Why Minnetota Timberwolves Do This Trade
The Minnesota Timberwolves have to change things up. They have been doing a lot of losing in recent seasons, but the end of the 2020-21 season at least gave them a glimmer of hope.
With their core of D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, and Karl-Anthony Towns healthy and playing, the team finished the season on a high note, going 11-11. They are hoping for more of the same this upcoming season and acquiring Cam Reddish can help them do it.
For a team that has lost as often as the Timberwolves have, surrendering a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is extremely risky. But, with the amount of young talent already on the roster, they take a shot on a high-upside player in Reddish that could use a change of scenery.
Reddish showed what he was capable of when he returned from injury in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks. He averaged 12.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks in 23 minutes per game. The former Duke product knocked down a scorching 64.3 percent of his 3-pointers as well.

While that percentage is unsustainable, it was a nice glimpse of the two-way production that Reddish is capable of providing. He would fit in perfectly with the Timberwolves, as they could use some more defensive-minded players in the lineup.
Reddish can slot right into the starting small forward spot, giving Minnesota a very young, high-ceiling starting five of Russell, Edwards, Reddish, Jaden McDaniels and Towns.
