Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Cam Reddish
Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Jake Layman, 2022 First-Round Pick, 2022 Second-Round Pick
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks are heading in two different directions. Minnesota is looking to muster up any positive momentum given its lack of success in recent years. They have only one playoff appearance in the last 17 seasons.
The Hawks, on the other hand, are looking to cement themselves as contenders in the Eastern Conference, but have to cut some costs along the way. So, the two teams come together on a deal.
For the Hawks, this trade may not make much sense. But, with other players coming up for extensions in the coming offseasons, they are looking to get some more cost-efficient players on the roster.
Trae Young and John Collins got extensions this offseason. Kevin Huerter and De’Andre Hunter are up next for them, along with Reddish. Given how their careers have progressed, it makes sense that Reddish is the player they are looking to move.

He has struggled with injuries and had he not performed well in the four games in the postseason against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Hawks would have been hard-pressed to even ask for a first-round pick for him.
That was the reported price throughout the offseason and they got it in this deal from Minnesota. The Hawks got what they wanted, as they reset the money clock on one roster spot moving on from the inconsistent Reddish.
How do the Timberwolves fare in this deal? Let’s take a look at it from their perspective.
