The New York Knicks have been busy this NBA offseason after a year that saw them win 41 games. It was a bit of a surprise to see the Knicks breakout like they did but this is where they need to stay. New York can continue to win by solidifying the roster on both ends of the floor.

The Knicks have not been a successful team in years. The front office has been a mess and they have not been able to nail down a head coach. Both of those problems seem to be fixed and it begins with Tom Thibodeau.

Thibodeau came to town and immediately changed the culture. The Knicks were the best defensive team in the league this season and that is a reason they were able to compete.

Despite the defensive efforts, the Knicks struggled at putting the ball in the basket. This made the team go out and sign Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker. There is hope for the Knicks to make the postseason once again next year and they can do so if all goes right.

The Detroit Pistons are not a team that has its eye on the postseason but just to build immediately. The Pistons landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and they were able to take Cade Cunningham. He is a franchise player to build around for years to come.

Cunningham now joins a young core of Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, and Killian Hayes, if he is able to stay healthy. Detroit got younger this season and moved completely toward a rebuild. They can continue to do this with a trade such as this one. Keep an eye on Detroit in NBA trade rumors as they build around Cunningham.

The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons were once in the same position but could be on opposite sides now. Here is what this potential NBA trade scenario centered around Josh Jackson could look like.
