Why Brooklyn Nets Do This Trade
The Brooklyn Nets have done a great job of adding depth to the roster this offseason. They have a good collection of guards and have some guys that can fill in on the wings. But the frontcourt is still lacking.
A team looking to win a championship cannot rely on a late first-round pick rookie such as Day’Ron Sharpe to anchor the middle of their team. Nicolas Claxton has shown some flashes, but relying on him as a starter would also be risky.
Blake Griffin was able to provide minutes at the five spot last season. They are hopeful that James Johnson can provide similar production as Jeff Green, but the team could still use another veteran in the mix at center.
If the Nets are not going to use DeAndre Jordan in their rotation, they should acquire a player that they will. Jordan has a close relationship with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but at some point, management has to draw the line and make moves that will improve the team.

Derrick Favors would be an upgrade on Jordan. He is a steady veteran that will provide solid defense and rebounding, something the Nets could certainly use more of. Even in a part-time role-playing about 15 minutes per game, he would have more of an impact.
Surrendering a second-round pick essentially to acquire Favors is an easy price to pay when you are as close to winning a championship as the Nets are.
