Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Derrick Favors
OKC Thunder Receive: C DeAndre Jordan, 2022 Second-Round Pick

This NBA trade scenario is a pretty straightforward one between the OKC Thunder and Brooklyn Nets, as they are swapping big men. The Nets fill a need and the Thunder do what they do best; flip players for future assets.

Oklahoma City sends Derrick Favors, who they acquired earlier this offseason along with a first-round pick from the Utah Jazz, to the Nets. In exchange, they get back the contract of DeAndre Jordan and a 2022 second-round pick.

Why would the Thunder take part in this deal? Because it is right up their alley. Virtually any time they acquire a veteran in a salary dump, they will try to flip them later on for more assets. They were unable to do it with Kemba Walker, with who they agreed to a buyout with, but can do it with Favors.

Jordan could play earlier in the season for the Thunder, much like Al Horford did last season. But, ultimately, the Thunder have no true use for him given the current state of their rebuild. They would likely try to find a new team for him via trade, or buy him out at some point with two years and about $20 million remaining on his deal.

The second-round pick is ultimately what gets the Thunder to bite on this deal. Sam Presti has never passed up a chance to acquire a draft pick, and he’ll nab another future one in this deal.

Why would the Nets do this deal? Let’s take a look at it from their perspective.
