Why Cleveland Cavaliers Do This Trade
The Cleveland Cavaliers have to start making some progress. They have a lot of young talent on this roster and need to begin winning games sooner than later or people will start losing their jobs.
Cleveland has four lottery picks from the last four drafts on their roster in Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Isaac Okor and Evan Mobley. When you include Jarrett Allen, who signed a five-year, $20 million deal, is part of that core as well.
The one thing missing is a legitimate, two-way wing and Dillon Brooks would provide that. If the team decides to move on from Collin Sexton, a starting five of Garland, Okoro, Brooks, Mobley and Allen would have great potential on both ends of the court.
Brooks would give Cleveland a go-to scorer on the wing, something they are lacking. That isn’t something Okoro is capable of giving them at the moment and he would be a better option than Cedi Osman.

The Oregon product would also bring some much-needed floor spacing. He is a 35.3 percent shooter from long-distance in his career. While not an eye-popping number, it would be a vast improvement for a team that was 29th in makes, 28th in attempts and 30th in percentage last season.
Trading away a 2023 first-round pick is steep, but the Cavaliers could be challenging for a playoff spot by that time if all goes well. As long as that isn’t a lottery pick, it is not as damaging to surrender it.
Balancing out the roster, as Nance is stuck behind two franchise cornerstones, and turning it into a useful wing is a good move by the front office.
