Why Memphis Grizzlies Do This Trade
The Memphis Grizzlies would be taking a wide picture approach to this deal. Trading away their second-leading scorer, when they could use more offense, seems short-sighted. But, it would be a shrewd move of asset management by Memphis’ front office.
The Grizzlies have a lot of young players that are itching to get a chance to prove themselves on the court. Desmond Bane, De’Anthony Melton, Jarrett Culver and rookie Ziaire Williams could all help compensate for the loss of Brooks.
The frontcourt is just as crowded, which makes the acquisition of Larry Nance Jr. a peculiar one. Jaren Jackson Jr., Xavier Tillman and Brandon Clarke are all fighting for minutes in the frontcourt along with Steven Adams at center.
However, the Grizzlies could easily flip Nance for even more assets to help balance out the roster. Nance could and another first-round pick in a deal given his contract and two-way production. Doing that would be excellent long-term thinking when it comes to moving Brooks in this deal.

Adding another future first-round pick would give Memphis three that they added this offseason. That would be enough to swing a bigger deal should they find a player that fits what they are looking for. Or, they can simply make the selections themselves, adding more first-round prospects to their core going forward.
