Why Golden State Warriors Do This Trade

The Golden State Warriors came into the offseason with the ammunition to make a big deal. They are looking to keep the championship window open as long as possible with their core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. This deal accomplishes that.

While Andrew Wiggins was coming into his own with the Golden State Warriors last season, Brandon Ingram is a big upgrade on him. Having Ingram, who has averaged 23.8 points per game with the New Orleans Pelicans, will take a lot of pressure off of the aging core.

Ingram is more than capable of carrying an offense and has developed into an excellent point-forward. He can score from every level of the offense but has good playmaking skills as well. His defense fell off slightly last season, but he is a legitimate two-way player.

Going on 24-years old, Ingram not only helps the Warriors immediately with their title aspirations, but he also gives them a long-term building block that can be the face of the franchise going into the future as well.

Having a player of his caliber will enable the Warriors to bring Thompson along slowly as well. He has not played since the 2019 NBA Finals, so there will assuredly be some rust to knock off and a readjustment period. Having another All-Star the shoulder the load will only help give him as much time as he needs.

Jaxson Hayes, as long as he avoids any legal trouble, will provide Golden State with another athletic man for their rotation. The Warriors are a little thin at the center position, so having him fill James Wiseman’s roster spot is a smart move.
