Would this trade work for the Golden State Warriors?

The Golden State Warriors have been scouring the league for trades all offseason. They were armed with some excellent assets, as they had two lottery picks in the 2021 NBA Draft and James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

In this trade, they surrender one of those assets to get a player that will help them instantly, as they are in win-now mode. Dillon Brooks would provide Golden State with more firepower on the wing, something they had been looking for.

With Klay Thompson on track to return, after not playing since the 2019 NBA Finals, the team could use some more experienced depth on the wing. Thompson will need time to reacclimate himself and get back up to speed, so having a player of Brooks caliber that can help hold down the fort while he does that would be nice.

Brooks is a solid scorer and tenacious defender. He would fit well into the Warriors’ rotation and he got his feet wet in the playoff atmosphere last season during the NBA Play-In Tournament and a first-round matchup with the Utah Jazz in which he averaged 25.8 points per game.

While trading away a player with the potential of Wiseman hurts, the Warriors cannot afford to wait for him to develop. Their aging core of Stephen Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green needs help now.

The first-round pick swap could net Golden State another solid asset should they look to trade for another veteran player to keep their championship window open next season.
