Does this trade make sense for the Memphis Grizzlies?

In terms of getting rid of a one-year salary and getting something in return, this trade does make some sense for the Memphis Grizzlies, but they could probably get a much better return for Kyle Anderson than a protected 2024 first-round pick and a second-round pick next year. He was a key talent for them that did a little bit of everything last season, which is why he is definitely worth a little bit more.

Memphis does need to free up a roster spot and rather quickly, but they should not be in a rush to trade either Kyle Anderson or Dillon Brooks, unless they get a terrific deal for either of them. This is not that terrific of a deal from Dallas, which is why the Grizzlies would likely not look to offer him to them.

Of the other players on their roster, it seems much more likely that they would look to waive either Daniel Oturu or Sam Merrill before trading one of their key guys, but this does not mean Brooks or Anderson will not be on the move before the start of next season.

Memphis is in a position similar to Oklahoma City the last few years in terms of trading around assets and flipping them for draft picks. The Grizzlies are a playoff team at this rate and are only going to get better, which is why they are in a great spot since they can continue building both now and for the future by flipping assets they get in trades for future assets/draft picks.

They did so with Valanciunas, they did so with Bledsoe, they did so with Beverley and now they could look to do the same with others on their roster. The job GM Zach Kleiman has done reconstructing this roster has been amazing, but his job is not finished yet. Memphis has a lot of potential to be a special team for years to come, but freeing up the necessary cap space to make this happen and getting the assets they want in return in trade talks is key.
