This Mavericks-Grizzlies Trade Is Centered Around Kyle Anderson

While they did not sign a single player in NBA free agency, the Memphis Grizzlies have been really busy this offseason with trades. Before the draft, they were able to move Jonas Valanciunas and the No. 17 pick in the draft to the New Orleans Pelicans for Steven Adams, Eric Bledsoe, the No. 10 pick in the draft and another future first-round pick.

At first glance, you may ask yourself why GM Zach Kleiman would want to get rid of Valanciunas after he was a key asset for them during the 2020-21 season, but then he went ahead and flipped Eric Bledsoe for Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo and Daniel Oturu from the Clippers, only to flip Beverley for Juancho Hernamgomez and Jarrett Culver from the Timberwolves.

While all of this was going on, the Grizzlies also traded Grayson Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks for Sam Merrill and two future second-round picks. Memphis has been very busy this offseason, to say the least, but they are not quite done making moves yet.

The Grizzlies now find themselves with 18 players under-contract for next season when all of these trades are finalized, but before their Timberwolves deal can go through, they need to free up a roster spot. As a result, Memphis is beginning to engage in trade talks to move one of their guaranteed contracts and one of which could end up being Kyle Anderson’s.

The veteran forward is entering the final year of his contract and is owed $9.9M, which is favorable to some teams given his production on both ends of the floor. According to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, the Memphis Grizzlies have made both Dillon Brooks and Kyle Anderson available “for the right price,” so could the Dallas Mavericks be a team that looks to add Anderson?

Dallas has been fairly quiet this offseason, making a couple moves in free agency and on the trade market, but they are still a team that is considered “middle-of-the-pack” in terms of playoff teams in the Western Conference. They need a little bit more talent to actually contend for a title, which is why they could show some interest in Anderson.
