Mo Bamba

Improving defensively is something the Dallas Mavericks have to do if they are to reach the next level. Their defensive rating has gotten worse in six consecutive seasons and that is a streak they would certainly like to snap.

One player that would help them do that is Mo Bamba. Bamba is someone that would present an excellent buy-low opportunity for Dallas. He has been unable to break out with the Orlando Magic, as they had Nikola Vucevic blocking him on the depth chart and now have Wendell Carter Jr. looking to receive minutes after he was acquired from the Chicago Bulls in the Vucevic deadline deal.

Bamba is an elite rebounder and shot-blocker, giving the Mavericks an anchor for their defense. Dallas ranked 21st in total rebounds, 30th in steals and 26th in blocks per game last season and the former Texas product would help in each category.

Mo Bamba has also shown the ability to possibly turn into a floor-spacer offensively. He has made only 32.5 percent of his 3-point attempts thus far in his career, but the potential is there for him to become a good perimeter shooter.

Having a center on the roster that impacts the game defensively as much as Mo Bamba can, would make for a good frontcourt partner for Kristaps Porzingis as well. If they are unable to trade him, Dallas should do what they can to bring out the best in Porzingis and having a long-term, improving center alongside him should help.
