Buddy Hield
The Dallas Mavericks’ goal in free agency was clear; add shooters around Luka Doncic. Sterling Brown and Reggie Bullock will both help, but the team can go even more all-in on that approach by acquiring Buddy Hield from the Sacramento Kings.
Hield is certainly available as the team has been shopping him for a while now. He was almost traded to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this offseason, but that trade fell through. Los Angeles pivoted to a deal that landed Russell Westbrook in the purple and gold instead.
Sacramento would likely still move Buddy Hield if the right deal came along. They are looking to clear as much space in their backcourt for their point guard trio of De’Aaron Fox, Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell, and moving Hield would accomplish that.
A career 40.6 percent shooter from the 3-point line, the former Sooner would be an excellent fit in Dallas’ offense. He averages 3.0 3-pointers made per game in his career, giving the Mavericks another volume shooter to help space the floor for Doncic to operate.

While 3-point shooting is his best skill, Buddy Hield has shown a more well-rounded game in recent seasons. He has developed as a playmaker, taking over the lead initiating role for the Kings last season with Fox and Haliburton were sidelined at the end of the season.
He showed well and would provide Dallas with an improving secondary ball-handler, something they were looking for this season as well.
