Terrence Ross – Orlando Magic – 2021-22 Salary: $12,500,000

While he is under contract through the 2022-23 season, one trade target that makes the most sense to me for Boston to target with their $17.1M TPE is Terrence Ross from the Orlando Magic. Ross has spent the last 4.5 seasons in Orlando, not seeing much success with the team, but individually, he has been great.

Since he was traded to the Magic during the 2016-17 season, the veteran wing has averaged 14.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and has shot 35.8% from deep primarily as a bench option. Ross has come off-the-bench in over 80% of the total games he has played in Orlando and would absolutely be a strong addition for Boston to have on their bench.

Last season, Boston really struggled to get anything going with their second-unit and they finished the year 28th in bench points. In order for them to live up to their high expectations and possibly chase a title, the Celtics need to find production on their bench, which is why Terrence Ross would be a key acquisition for them.

He can score in volume, create opportunities for others and once again, give Boston some more depth, which is why trading for Terrence Ross would make sense. The Orlando Magic are rebuilding and they should be more than happy to trade their veteran wing for another young talent or a future draft pick, both of which Boston has to barter with.

Ross’ $12.5M contract for the 2021-22 season and $11.5M for the 2022-23 season really is not nothing when you look at the value he brings as one of the better bench scorers in the league, which is why the Boston Celtics would be wise to consider him as a possible midseason acquisition with their $17.1M traded player exception stemming from signing-and-trading Evan Fournier this offseason.
