Dallas Mavericks Receive: F/C Thaddeus Young
San Antonio Spurs Receive: C Dwight Powell, G Tyrell Terry, 2022 second-round pick
This is not the blockbuster deal that the Dallas Mavericks could be looking for but it would give them another veteran piece to help in the postseason. Thaddeus Young would bring leadership and experience to the rotation right away.
There are plenty of pieces that Dallas could send back but it would not be too expensive. Dwight Powell and Tyrell Terry would be the return going to the San Antonio Spurs. They would also revive a second-round pick in next year’s draft.
There has been focus from the Mavericks to add a secondary ball handler ahead of the 2021-22 season, but continuing to bolster their defense could go a long way. The versatility of Young would go a long way alongside Kristaps Porzingis in the frontcourt.
The Mavericks already have added a few helpful talents this offseason between Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown in addition to re-signing Tim Hardaway Jr. Adding Young into the mix would continue to solidify Dallas defensively.

The Spurs would not receive a lofty return in exchange for Young when considering he is set to play on an expiring deal and is 33-years-old. San Antonio may prefer to not move him in a trade, but if they did, the Mavericks could offer at least some solid assets.
Let’s take a closer look and see how this NBA trade scenario centered around Thaddeus Young would impact both the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs.
