Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?
It is fair to question the moves that the Pelicans have made this offseason thus far. New Orleans sent Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls in a sign-and-trade for Garrett Temple and Tomas Satoransky.
Instead of retaining Ball, the Pelicans replaced him by completing a separate sign-and-trade for Devonte’ Graham.
While Graham brings shooting to the offense, Ball was a more complete player that fit New Orleans better. It would have been better to keep Ball with Ingram and Williamson than to get Graham, but that’s a discussion for another day.
Given how the Pelicans have conducted business this offseason, I wouldn’t put them trading Ingram for Simmons past them.

I would personally take Ingram over Simmons 10 times out of 10, especially with his potential as an offensive player at 23 years old. Lewis is also a player that has the potential to become a defined role player for New Orleans as he refines his skills as a point guard.
While there’s a chance that the Pelicans can develop Simmons into a much-improved scorer, trading Ingram and Lewis — plus a first-round pick — for Simmons seems like an unwise idea for a franchise that should stick with their duo of Ingram and Williamson.
