Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
The Boston Celtics made the decision to move on from Kemba Walker using a trade to send him to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Since that occurred, he has received a contract buyout and has signed with the New York Knicks for $8 million in 2021-22.
The main issue for the Celtics is that a replacement has not been found. Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard are considered the most likely options to fill the point guard rotation for Boston during the upcoming season.
The premise makes sense that if the Celtics were to believe in Cole Anthony that he would be a logical trade option to pursue. There is real reason to question whether the second-year guard is the right answer when looking at his performance last season.
There are some concerns about Anthony’s potential fit or worthiness of such an investment. He was somehow more efficient as a jump shooter than a finisher despite being being one of the lesser efficient jump shooters in the NBA.

The Celtics would need to have strong confidence in Anthony’s year-to-year potential in order to make this NBA trade scenario work. It’s reasonable to expect improvement in year-two from the guard, but regardless, will it come quickly enough to help Boston contend for a title?
