2. Dallas Mavericks
The No. 1 goal for the Dallas Mavericks this offseason was to get a secondary ball-handler to pair with Luka Doncic. Thus far, that has not come to fruition. Instead, they have focused on adding more 3-point shooters, as Sterling Brown and Reggie Bullock both knocked down more than 40 percent of their attempts from distance last season.
There are some rumors floating around that the Mavericks are hopeful to land Goran Dragic, who was traded to the Toronto Raptors from the Miami Heat as part of the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade.
But, the Mavericks do not want to trade for Dragic, they are hoping that they can sign him as a free agent. With Dragic hitting free agency not being a certainty, the team could pivot to another player such as Dejounte Murray.
Murray would be an excellent pairing in the backcourt alongside Doncic. He would provide the secondary ball-handler the team is looking for and playmaking so that not all of the offensive responsibility is on the young Slovenian’s shoulders. Murray isn’t a consistent 3-point shooter yet, but his midrange game and ability to finish at the basket would provide another dimension to the Mavericks’ offense.

Murray’s defense would be the biggest help for Dallas. The Mavericks have seen their defensive rating get worse in six straight seasons and Murray would help put an end to that streak, giving Dallas the perimeter defender they covet.
Maxi Kleber or Dwight Powell could be used to help match salary. Josh Green is a young player the San Antonio Spurs could target as well to aid in their youth movement. Or, if San Antonio wanted to take a swing, they could build a package around Murray for Kristaps Porzingis.
