2. J.J. Redick

The end of the 2020-21 season did not go as planned for J.J. Redick. The New Orleans Pelicans were having trade discussions involving him and he was under the impression he would be traded closer to his family, who lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Redick ended up being traded to the Dallas Mavericks, a move that he was not thrilled about. Now that he is a free agent, he will have his pick of where he wants to play. The Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers are expected to show interest in the sharpshooting veteran.

While Los Angeles is on the opposite side of the country, the chance to win a championship could lure Redick out west. Redick missed the postseason for the first time in his career with the Pelicans during the 2019-20 season and didn’t play a minute with the Mavericks because of injury.

The Lakers could certainly use the shooting that Redick would provide. With Kentavious Caldwell-Pope heading to Washington, Los Angeles is lacking a viable volume threat from the perimeter. Redick can still knock down 3-pointers, as he made 37.1 percent of his attempts last season.

That percentage is still above the league average but is the second-lowest mark of his career. Having that sort of shooting available is something the Lakers would love to have.
