Toronto Raptors Receive: F Andrew Wiggins, C James Wiseman, MIN 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #7), GSW 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #14)

The 2019 NBA Finals was between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors with the Raptors coming out on top. Pascal Siakam was a big part of the Raptors’ success in this series and has grown into an All-Star talent since he won a championship in Toronto, so could he be a guy the Warriors zero-in on this offseason?

There has been a lot of talk over the last month about the Warriors putting both of their picks up for trade discussion and many executives around the league tend to believe that Golden State will be aggressive in their pursuit to add more talent. John Hollinger of The Athletic believes that Golden State will not only be willing to move both of their draft picks to add another high-level talent, but possibly move James Wiseman in a scenario for Pascal Siakam as well.

“Golden State assured itself of an additional first-round pick when Minnesota failed to land in the top three on lottery night. The Warriors now have the seventh and 14th picks plus last year’s second overall pick, James Wiseman, and there is a widespread expectation that the Warriors will use No. 7 and Wiseman, in particular, to seek more immediate upgrades to the roster. One name to watch: Pascal Siakam.”

In order to make this trade work financially, Andrew Wiggins would also be on the move to Toronto, but this is a really intriguing scenario for the Warriors. Pascal Siakam can definitely play alongside Draymond Green in the Warriors’ front-court and is definitely much better in the secondary scoring role next to other established stars rather than trying to be the “alpha dog” himself.

Not only do the Warriors have a real MVP candidate in Stephen Curry, but they will also have Klay Thompson back from injury, putting Pascal Siakam in this second-man/third-man role that he has thrived in during his career.

The Warriors would be giving up a lot of future assets by trading for Pascal Siakam in any trade scenario, but the question they have to ask themselves is if he is the final piece in their championship puzzle. If the answer is yes, then Golden State should not hesitate to trade for Siakam, even if it does mean sacrificing their future to do so.
