Does this trade make sense for the Dallas Mavericks?
It’s no secret that the Dallas Mavericks are desperate to find talent that can mesh well with Luka Doncic this offseason. Amid the changes happening within the organization, keeping Doncic content with the direction of the franchise is vital.
Before the 2020-21 season, Dallas conducted a trade that would send Seth Curry to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Josh Richardson. The idea was for Richardson to be a versatile wing defender for the Mavericks that could knock down threes, but the plan backfired.
With Richardson not panning out and Dallas needing a perimeter defender that could aid Doncic, Marcus Smart would be an ideal addition for the Mavericks.
Smart would likely play the point guard position for the Mavericks, especially if the Mavericks retains Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency.

Getting Smart via trade without having to surrender Porzingis, along with adding other notable pieces, would make for a successful offseason for the Mavericks.
