Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
For years, we’ve heard that the Boston Celtics could be in the market to acquire an All-Star caliber player. But what prevented the Celtics from acquiring star players was the fact they were reluctant to include Marcus Smart in any trades.
While he’s a more polished player than he was earlier in his career, Smart’s trade value may not be what the Celtics think it is, especially since he’s in the final year of his current contract. Whoever attempts to acquire Smart is doing so with the knowledge of needing to sign him to an extension after next season.
It’s likely that in any trade involving Smart to the Mavericks, the Celtics would want Porzingis in return. But even with Porzingis’ trade stock declining, he’s worth more than just Smart.
Brunson would be an underrated replacement for Walker as he’s shown vast improvements in his game in recent years. He also isn’t a point guard that needs to dominate possession, which would work well with Tatum and Brown.

Kleber would also give Boston multiple options with their lineups as he can play power forward or center, depending on what the Celtics are looking for.
