Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?
The benefit here is clear for the Orlando Magic. Damian Lillard is one of the best players in the game and it always benefits a team when they are able to add someone of that caliber. This would give Orlando a player to build around and someone that could make them postseason contenders right away.
Lillard is good enough to lead the Magic with what they have right now. The front office would round out the lineup with other names but Lillard would be plenty in the Eastern Conference.
This is not to say that they would be a championship contender but in a weak conference, Lillard could be able to lead Orlando to the postseason. The Magic sent away they are stars of the NBA trade deadline and could be looking to add another one very soon.
The Magic would retain Jonathan Isaac and Wendell Carter Jr. in this particular NBA trade scenario as well as Terrence Ross and RJ Hampton. Orlando would need to find an answer on the wing in order to round out the starting lineup. Between DeMar DeRozan, Will Barton, and Kelly Oubre Jr., to name a few, there are a variety of potential options to get the job done.

This is certainly one of the best deals that the Magic would be able to find in the open market. If they want to make a huge splash moving forward, putting a package together for Lillard is one way to do so.
