Denver Nuggets
It goes without saying that the Denver Nuggets should attempt to retain Barton this offseason. Given his skillset at both shooting guard and small forward, Barton — who is the current longest-tenured player in Denver — wouldn’t be easy to replace.
Despite missing 16 games and the majority of the playoffs this season, Barton is a key member of the Nuggets. And with Jamal Murray expected to miss the start of next season, losing Barton would be detrimental to the offense.
With Barton turning down his player option worth $14.7 million, he likely wants a contract worth at least a few million more annually.
If the reports are true that both sides are interested in a possible return, then Denver could have the first chance to sign the Memphis product.

Even though it remains to be seen how much the Nuggets are willing to shell out for Barton, it’d be in their best interest to bring him back next season.
