Golden State Warriors Receive: C Christian Wood
Houston Rockets Receive: C James Wiseman, G Jordan Poole, No. 14 Pick, 2023 First-Round Pick
In this deal, the Warriors land Christian Wood on his own. Given how small his salary is, the numbers match up by sending out two of the Warriors’ most recent first-round picks, James Wiseman and Jordan Poole.
By landing Wiseman, the Rockets are adding a young player with a very high ceiling. Wiseman was the No. 2 overall selection in 2020, so putting him in the middle of a roster where he can get virtually unlimited reps will do him some good. Playing on a win-now Warriors team isn’t great for a player that is rough around the edges and needs experience, as Wiseman only played three games collegiately
Poole gives the Rockets another young guard that they can evaluate and decide if he should be part of their future core. Poole had a rough rookie season, but bounced back with a strong sophomore season and looks like he can be a solid rotational piece as a scorer off the bench.
With the inclusion of Wiseman in this deal, the Warriors send the No. 14 overall pick in this year’s draft over to Houston instead of the No. 7 pick. Golden State can use that pick on a prospect to add to their roster or as a trade piece for another veteran, possibly attaching it to Kelly Oubre Jr. in a sign-and-trade.

A second first-round pick is included to sweeten the pot, but the Warriors won’t go beyond that. Including Wiseman is essentially the equivalent of adding a third first-round pick.
