New York Knicks Receive: G Collin Sexton
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: F Obi Toppin, NYK 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #19), DAL 2021 1st Round Pick (Pick #21)

New York is in a very interesting situation as a franchise because while they just made the playoffs as the 4-seed in the Eastern Conference, they still have a lot of growing to do and a lot of work to do if they are to sustain and build off of their recent success.

After all, the Knicks are a franchise that has not been known to succeed over the years, so they are looking to change the narrative.

They drafted Obi Toppin 8th overall last year and given that he held a minimal role with the Knicks this year behind Julius Randle, they could be willing to trade him for a player of Sexton’s caliber. The Cavaliers were high on Toppin too entering the 2020 NBA Draft, but decided to pass on him and select Isaac Okoro instead.

Not only would Toppin be going to Cleveland to most likely become a focal point in their frontcourt next to Jarrett Allen, but both of the Knicks first-round picks this year would likely be on the move as well.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks are “amenable to trading out of the first round” this year, but they will want an established talent in return.

With the 19th and 21st picks in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Knicks definitely can trade away a lot of value, which is why the Cavaliers could be interested.

Cleveland does have the 3rd pick in this year’s draft as well, so having the ability to add two more young talents to their roster could be something they view as advantageous to their long-term plans.
