Lonzo Ball

If the Los Angeles Clippers take the trade route in acquiring a point guard, one player they could consider going after is Lonzo Ball. Ball is entering restricted free agency, so a sign-and-trade for him would be how Los Angeles could acquire him.

The interest in Ball goes back to the NBA trade deadline when it was reported that the Clippers were trying to acquire him. They were doing their diligence on finding a third team to help facilitate the trade, but nothing came to fruition. So, they will take another crack at it this summer.

Lonzo Ball is the perfect player for what the Clippers need. He has shown the ability to be an elite playmaker when he is the lead initiator of the offense. His acceptance of more of a 3-and-D role and development as a shooter this season shows that he is adaptable depending on what the team needs.

The former UCLA product is also an excellent defender. He was not lauded for his work on that end of the court coming into the league, but since he stepped foot in the NBA he has been excellent defensively. Alongside Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, that would be genuinely intriguing.

While signing Lonzo Ball to a contract themselves is not feasible, a sign-and-trade would benefit both sides as the Clippers get their new starting point guard and the Pelicans won’t lose a young player for anything in return.
