Spark Plug For Second Unit
When you look around the NBA, a lot of the best teams had a dynamic scorer coming off the bench to help carry the second unit. The Boston Celtics lacked that, as not a single player who played more minutes off the bench than as a starter averaged double-figures.
Robert Williams and Payton Pritchard led the bench unit averaging 8.0 and 7.5 points per game. That will just not cut it, as there is too much pressure being put on the starting unit to carry the offense.
Adding a dynamic scorer to their second unit should be near the top of the Celtics’ to-do list this season and Derrick Rose would check that box.
After starting every game he played in from 2008-2017, Rose has transitioned well to a bench role. He began finding his stride in 2018 with the Minnesota Timberwolves, coming off the bench in 38 out of 51 games played.

In 139 games as a reserve, Rose has averaged 14.9 points, 4.1 assists, 2.4 rebounds and only 1.7 turnovers in 23.9 minutes per game. That kind of production is much needed in Boston.
