Many might have thought that Buddy Hield would have been on the move by now. It turns out that the Sacramento Kings decided to keep him through last offseason, the NBA trade deadline, and the entire regular season. As we sit here in July, we could finally be counting days until Hield is traded.
Hield was one of the hot names on the trading block last offseason. The Kings moved him to the bench in 2019 in favor of Bogdan Bogdanovic. This season, Bogdanovic was with the Atlanta Hawks and helped them advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
This meant that Hield saw an extended role and the Kings did not move him during another lackluster season. Sacramento continues to be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference and a trade could be on the horizon. In this particular deal, the San Antonio Spurs would take a chance.
The Spurs are going to look a lot different next season. DeMar DeRozan opted into his contract for this season, where he was paid $27.7 million, and this was the final year on his deal. DeRozan will likely leave in free agency.

LaMarcus Aldridge was the other veteran presence in San Antonio and he was bought out by the Spurs midway through the season. The Spurs are a winning franchise and need to figure out how to get back into the postseason. They could do so by landing a trade for an impact performer on the perimeter.
This trade would check boxes for both sides. Here is what a potential deal between the Spurs and Kings might look like in the offseason.
