Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
At this point, it is time for the Minnesota Timberwolves to just bite the bullet and sell on some of their highly paid personnel. They did not move many big names at the NBA trade deadline but we can see that happen here. Karl-Anthony Towns is likely to be near the top of the list but D’Angelo Russell could be right behind him.
It is likely that all players are available via trade other than Anthony Edwards, who was taken with the first-overall pick in last year’s draft and named NBA Rookie of the Year. He will be the new centerpiece to build around as Towns’ days could be numbered.
The Timberwolves had made the postseason just once since drafting Towns in 2015 and it is time to move on. With Anthony Edwards now in the fold, the team already has a co-star on a rookie contract and does not need to be paying big money to D’Angelo Russell to not fill that role.
D’Angelo Russell knows a thing or two about being traded and still has great value. It would not be difficult to move him and would certainly be the wise move if the Timberwolves want to game or assets for the rebuild.

It is not easy to rebuild in the NBA and the Timberwolves are proving that. It is going to be quite some time before they are able to climb up the standings in a difficult Western Conference but they could take a big step with some trades this offseason.
