Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?

Quite honestly, the Celtics really have nothing to lose in this trade other than a second-round draft pick next year. Grant Williams and Carsen Edwards are never going to be key contributors for the Boston Celtics and quite honestly, it is better to at least try and get value for them now before they become free agents and go elsewhere.

Aaron Holiday has had his struggles in the league, but his offensive mentality of always wanting to score is exactly what the Celtics need in their bench players. Boston ranked 28th in the league in bench scoring this past year and their best scorers off-the-bench were Robert Williams and Payton Pritchard.

This team needs someone who they can turn to for offensive production off-the-bench, which is why Aaron Holiday presents a no-risk, high-reward type presence for the Celtics. If he comes in and is able to contribute meaningful minutes then great! If not, Holiday is set to become a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season anyways so the Celtics will not be tied down to him long-term .

Holiday is a much better option to rely on for scoring compared to Grant Williams and Carsen Edwards, which is why making this trade could prove highly beneficial to the Boston Celtics. Bringing back Evan Fournier in free agency and possibly moving on from Tristan Thompson is at the top of the Celtics offseason “to-do” list, but adding talent to their bench is a must.

If the Celtics are to contend for a championship, they need to find ways to add more talent to their second-unit. Acquiring Aaron Holiday is not going to instantly make the Celtics a legit playoff contender next year, but he could definitely create a spark for them in terms of his scoring and shooting numbers off-the-bench.
