Kristaps Porzingis

The Kristaps Porzingis trade talks will be one plenty of people will be keeping an eye on. While acquiring the former All-Star from the Dallas Mavericks would be a very risky move, it is also one that could reap the biggest benefits.

The risks are plentiful, starting with his health. Kristaps Porzingis has been unable to stay healthy throughout his career, playing in at least 70 games only once, which occurred during his rookie season.

His lateral quickness is unlikely to improve as almost all of his injuries have been to his lower body, worsening his already shaky defense. His contract would also be an obstacle, as the Charlotte Hornets would be capped out for the foreseeable future.

But, on the flip side, getting a player as talented as Kristaps Porzinigs does not happen every day. He has already shown from his time with the New York Knicks he can be the focal point of an offense and succeed. His ability to stretch the court offensive would open things up for James Borrego’s offense, and he is a strong rim protector.

For a team like the Hornets looking to climb the ranks of the Eastern Conference, Kristaps Porzingis would be a worthwhile gamble as long as the price isn’t too exorbitant.
