Ben Simmons’ positives outweigh his negatives in Indiana
The glaring weakness right now for Simmons is his offense. He cannot shoot the ball and his confidence is shot. As the former No. 1 overall pick, there is immense pressure on Simmons to carry a team. If he is acquired by another team in a trade, some of that pressure, especially in a quieter media city such as Indiana, will dissipate.
With the Pacers, Simmons’ strengths could be highlighted more. The team is in dire need of help defensively, which he would instantly improve. Indiana’s free-flowing, ball-movement-based offense is one Simmons would also thrive in, as he is an excellent passer.
In addition, he wouldn’t be relied upon as the sole initiator, as Sabonis and Caris LeVert are also strong playmakers. With so many scoring threats on the roster, more pressure would be taken off Simmons.
Putting the former LSU star in a position that he can focus on his strengths and not have his weaknesses harped on would be an ideal situation for him.
