Does this trade make sense for the Portland Trail Blazers?
The Portland Trail Blazers might not have a choice but to trade Damian Lillard this offseason. That is the context of this particular NBA trade scenario — not from a perspective of the team choosing to move him because they favor Russell Westbrook.
After yet another first-round exit in the postseason, Lillard could attempt to force his way out of town and onto another team. Washington might not be his first choice but the Trail Blazers could pick this deal because of what they would get in return.
If Lillard is sent away, that means Portland has to hang onto McCollum. Westbrook would come and take over at the top of the offense. This would keep a dynamic duo in Portland and one that they could build around. Westbrook has a winning mentality and would bring fire to the Trail Blazers after losing their best player.
The Trail Blazers would also load up on some draft capital. They would get a first-round pick this year, which is beneficial given that the Houston Rockets currently have theirs from a previous deal.

It never seems beneficial when a team has to trade their star point guard. In this case, Portland might not have a choice and that means they just have to find the best deal possible for them.
