The Detroit Pistons hit the lottery on Tuesday night. They were given the first-overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and the right to draft Cade Cunningham — if they decide to hang onto it.
It would be surprising to see the Pistons look to trade out of the top spot but anything is possible. They have some young talent on the roster already. Saddiq Bey was named First Team All-Rookie while Isaiah Stewart was a member of the second team.
Cade Cunningham would take the rebuild to another level and land them a centerpiece that could lead the franchise for quite some time. There’s good reason for the excitement surrounding the idea of bringing him in alongside Jerami Grant, especially.
In that same thought, other teams might be thinking it as well. There are some teams that will call Detroit with outrageous offers to land that coveted first-overall pick. The haul will have to be large, especially with a player like Cunningham sitting there and waiting.

While there are always smokescreens in NBA trade rumors this time of year, especially leading up to the NBA Draft, it’s important to note, the Pistons are not set on who they want to select at No. 1 overall. Perhaps this could be a situation similar to the Boston Celtics moving down a few spots to take Jayson Tatum?
When looking at the 2021 NBA Draft configuration, these three teams have the best chance of luring that selection away from the Detroit Pistons.
