Does this trade make sense for the Orlando Magic?
Orlando is not only going to end up with a Top-7 pick given that they finished with the third worst record in the league this year, but the Magic have a 79.8% chance to obtain Chicago’s first-round pick this year stemming from the Nikola Vucevic trade deadline trade. Chicago’s pick is likely to fall 8-11, which would convey to the Magic, giving them two lottery picks in this year’s draft.

Not only will the Magic be able to get two high-level, young prospects in the draft, but they could also do so by making this trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. Getting Derrick Jones Jr. and Nassir Little definitely brings some value to the Magic and this trade gives them two players that they can potentially build with.
DJJ is 24-years-old and Nassir Little is just 21-years-old, giving the Magic two guys that fit their rebuild process. Giving up their second-round pick, Pick #33 in this year’s draft, is not that big of a loss for the Magic given that they have two lottery picks and quite honestly, they do get a fair amount of value for Ross in this trade.
There probably are other teams that would be interested in the veteran wing this offseason, which is why they should not rush to make a deal, but getting two young players who have above-average athleticism is definitely intriguing for the Magic.
While they would probably like to acquire some draft assets for Terrence Ross, this trade with the Blazers definitely presents the Orlando Magic with some unique value that could be worth taking a risk on. At this point, they really do not have anything to lose since they are going to be competing for the first pick in the 2022 NBA Draft next season.
