Washington Wizards Receive: F Jerami Grant
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Davis Bertans, F Chandler Hutchison, 2021 first-round pick (15th overall)
During the offseason before the 2020-2021 season, the Pistons swooped in to sign Grant to a massive three-year, $60 million contract in free agency. The original expectations were that Grant was going to return to the Denver Nuggets on a prove-it deal and he would test free agency again in 2021.
Just one year after joining Detroit, Grant is sent to Washington in exchange for Davis Bertans, Chandler Hutchison, and a 2021 first-round pick, which is slated to be the 15th overall selection.

Grant is under contract for another two years, so the Wizards wouldn’t be overly concerned with his contract situation. To make the money work, Washington would send Bertans, who inked a five-year, $80 million deal with the Wizards prior to this season. Acquiring Bertans wouldn’t be an issue for the Pistons due to ridding of Grant’s contract, and they have cap space to work with this offseason.
To complete the trade, the Wizards will also include Chandler Hutchison and their 15th overall pick in the upcoming draft. Hutchison was acquired by Washington ahead of this year’s trade deadline, along with Daniel Gafford, in a trade with the Chicago Bulls.
What makes the deal the most enticing is being able to land Washington’s first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, especially with how deep the talent in the draft seems to be.
