Does this trade make sense for the Toronto Raptors?

The Toronto Raptors decided to hold onto Kyle Lowry at the NBA trade deadline despite him being a hot commodity. Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers were interested in the veteran point guard but the Raptors held steady. Now, they could be looking at last-minute options in hopes of getting something for Lowry if he were to depart in NBA free agency.

The only way to do so at this time is a sign-and-trade deal. This makes sense for the Raptors given the fact that Kyle Lowry is not going to be a long-term option for them anymore entering NBA free agency. His time in Toronto has come and gone and it is time for the franchise to get something for him.

The Raptors have gone a different direction and that is giving Fred VanVleet a long-term contract. They were plenty of moves to be made out of Toronto moving forward and this could be near the top of the list.

Masai Ujiri is one of the best front-office minds in the league and has made it clear that he is staying in Toronto. He has his hands full move forward if he wants to get Toronto back to the top of the Eastern Conference.
