Does this trade benefit the Dallas Mavericks?
It always benefits a team if they are able to send away a disgruntled player. When it is a player like Kristaps Porzingis, the return will be large. If the Dallas Mavericks can land a replacement for their big man, along with some valuable role players next to Luka Doncic, then this trade scenario with the Miami Heat seems like a good one.

Goran Dragic and Andre Igoudala are veteran players that teams need if they want to compete during the most important time of the year. They are a short-term commitment which makes them low risk with no contract tied to them. Precious Achiuwa would be the most intriguing player in this deal. While that may be a head-scratcher to many, there’s more context to consider.
The main benefit for the Mavericks would be getting off of the long-term salary commitment of Kristaps Porzingis’ contract. Meanwhile, Goran Dragic already has a strong relationship with Doncic from their mutual experience with the Slovenian National Team and would be a needed secondary ball handler.
Precious Achiuwa is better on the defensive end than Porzingis and could be an intriguing screener and interior play finisher for Luka Doncic to use throughout games. With Luka Doncic’s supermax extension soon to be a factor, having contributors on favorable deals is key to success.
The Mavericks are in a position where they would be able to trade Kristaps Porzingis and not have any severe repercussions. If they feel like the deal would benefit them with Luka Doncic, it could be done.
