2021 NBA DRAFT
Owned Draft Picks: NONE
The Mavericks have really never been known to be a successful team on draft night and over the years, they have not really done anything on draft night, besides trading for Luka, to help better their team. Last year, the Mavericks drafted Josh Green 18th overall and Tyrell Terry 31st overall, but neither guy held a major role in Dallas this year.
Green played in just 39 games and Terry played in just 11 games, both seeing minimal playing time when they were on the floor. Moving forward, both of the Mavericks’ rookies this year are likely going to see an increase in role heading into next season, as they will both likely see a lot of developmental time over the summer.
But, with no draft picks and not a lot of youth on their roster, where do the Mavericks go from here in terms of developing their team? Dallas could potentially buy their way into the second-round if there is a player available that peaks their interest, but overall, the Mavericks are probably going to be quiet on draft night.

The possibility of a Kristaps Porzingis trade will still be floating around then and there will be some speculation that a trade could possibly get done on draft night, but overall, Dallas does not really have much to offer up in order to come away with a draft pick this year.
Their first-round pick is in the hands of the Knicks stemming from the “Tim Hardaway Jr./Kristaps Porzingis deal” and their second-round pick is in New Orleans from the J.J. Redick deal.
The draft has never been a big part of the Dallas Mavericks roster construction process and this year, it will not serve a purpose once again. They could be in the market however to sign one or two undrafted rookies to non-guaranteed deals or two-way contracts.
