New York Knicks
Finally, the Knicks are a team that would make perfect sense for a Marcus Smart trade. They have extra first-round picks to use in a trade and they have a major need for improvement in the back-court. However, the obstacle to this move could be the Celtics not being willing to trade Smart within their own division.
Smart is the kind of player that teams love to have on their side, but they hate to play against. Trading him to the Knicks would mean that the Celtics would have to compete against him much more often.
New York made a big-time run in the Eastern Conference this season and shocked many fans and media members. They finished the regular season with a 41-31 record, which placed them No. 4 in the conference. Unfortunately, they were defeated four games to one by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.
If they were able to acquire Smart, the Knicks could very well play him as their new starting point guard. New York could also retain Derrick Rose and play Smart alongside him in the back-court. His defense would be a welcome addition and he would not be relied heavily on to be a huge scorer.
Figuring out a trade between two division rivals can be a difficult thing to do, but this destination would be a perfect fit for both the Knicks and Smart.
